Take advantage of DisplayFusion's powerful Wallpaper Profiles to configure multiple groups of settings. Configure a profile for home, work, day, night or anything you need. In this video you will choose and set the Windows Vista screen saver. If you know you're going to be away from your computer and you want people to know that your computer is running but it's currently unavailable for use, you can activate a screen saver. A screen saver is a picture or animation that covers your screen and appears after your computer is idle for a period of time. And Windows Vista lets you set the idle time before Vista activates the screen saver. You can stop the screensaver by clicking a mouse button or any key on your keyboard. Here's how you set the screen saver. Open the Personalization window as you did in the Access the Personalization Window video earlier in this chapter. Click the Screen Saver link. The Screen Saver Settings window appears. The default screen saver is Windows Logo. The Preview screen shows you how the screen saver pictures and animation will appear on your screen. If you want to view the preview in a full screen, click the Preview button. You can stop the preview by pressing any key on your keyboard. Change the screen saver by clicking the Screen Saver button. You can choose from eight other screen savers or you can have no screen saver. When you select a new screen saver the preview screen displays the new screen saver pictures and or animations. Change the screen saver settings by clicking the Settings button. If there are no settings associated with the screen saver then a dialog box will appear stating there are no setting for that screen saver. The Google Screensaver is one of the amazing free applications that is part of Google’s free Google Pack software package.
The Google Screensaver is optional as part of Google Pack, but it’s one component that you should not miss. With it, you can have a screensaver that uses your own photos that you’ve accumulated and edited in Google Picasa, from Picasa Web Albums, from your own photos from folders on your computer that you specify (so you can use some photos as screensaver images, but not others), and from photo feeds (which defaults to “Default Google Photo Feed.”)
You can control how often the picture changes. You can also control the type of transition from one image to the next. The Visual Effect lets you choose Pan and Zoom, Collage, Wipe and Cross-Fade.
You can access the control panel for Google Screensaver in either of two ways: from the Start Menu > All Programs > Google Photos Screensaver > Configure Google Photos Screensaver, or
Right-click on a blank spot on your Windows Desktop, then select Properties, then click on the Screen Saver tab — that’s exactly where the first option takes you.
The Screen Saver tab is on the left image below. If you click on Settings in the Screen Saver tab, you’ll get the dialog box on the right, where you can make the adjustments in the Google Screensaver’s’ options. In the left image below, we see the actual screensaver in use (with one of my images that I use as a desktop background). Notice the two sets of controls in the center at the top and bottom of the screen. These allow you to close the screensaver, to hold an individual image or click to go back or advance forward through the images using your mouse.
How can I get the controls to display? That’s easy. Just move the mouse to the top or bottom edge of the screen. While most screensavers will stop when you move the mouse, the Google Photo Screensaver requires a keypress to stop the screensaver.
The image on the right is the same image, but without the controls. How to we "lose the controls?" Just move the mouse away from the edge of the screen and don’t move it for a few seconds.

Using a Terminal command, you can turn any screensaver into your background wallpaper. In the screenshot above I have the iTunes Album Art screensaver running as the Mac OS X desktop, but you can choose any screensaver you want. Here’s how to do this:
Launch System Preferences
Click on Desktop & Screen Saver and choose the screensaver you want to set as the background
Open Terminal (located in /Applications/Utilities/) and paste in the following command:
If you split the command into two, there is a period before the second part, so don’t miss that. Stopping the screensaver is just a matter of hitting Control+Z, although you can set the process to run on it’s own by adding an ampersand (&) to the end of the last command too.
The screensaver will take a few seconds and load as the desktop wallpaper. This ends up giving your Mac an effect similar to Android OS’s living wallpapers (you can get living wallpapers on iPhone too but you have to jailbreak).
Most screensavers won’t use too much CPU, in testing they generally run between 4-12% although Arabesque spiked as high as 40% at times. Regardless, running a screensaver in the background isn’t a good idea if you’re trying to preserve battery life or you need CPU power for something else.
This trick is a bit of an oldie but goodie, but I still use it from time to time for the eyecandy. One of the more pleasantly subtle backgrounds to use this with are the image based screensavers like Beach or Forest, or you can create one with your own pictures, the effect is a moving background that pans and uses the “Ken Burns” effect over the images.
